Belfast Ceramics Studio

This is a brilliant place in East Belfast. We went with the kids for the open day recently , and our daughter had a wonderful time trying out the pottery wheel (twice!). I also had a go which I’ve never done before. There was also tile making and examples of Helen’s work and others. She is offering memberships on 3 tiers (I think) as well as courses and all sorts. Helen very generously fired AND glazed the pots we made so we have wonderful keepsakes. Apparently there’s going to be another Open Day soon so keep an eye out! Our son wasn’t so into the crafting, but pulled up a chair and helped out with the snacks!

What a fabulous day we had at Belfast Ceramics. Helen was amazing and has the patience of a saint. Four of us went as part of my birthday celebrations and we laughed the whole time. We were shown how to "throw " (look at me with the lingo) and then we each got to it at our own wheel. That’s when a gravy boat with a hole in the bottom of it and several bowls, none of which were fit for a dinner service, were beautifully created 🤣🤣🤣. We honestly had the best time and actually had some pieces that were going to be fired and glazed. I would highly recommend Belfast Ceramics and Helen if you want a great day with lots of craic but also for anyone who wants to learn the skill - you can see how it could become quite addictive. We’re looking forward to going back. Jill x.

Sculpting a Head in Clay This project was carried out over 3 days. The tutor was excellent - she explained every stage of the process clearly and gave individual guidance to all the participants. We ended up with heads full of character, and have requested more of the same - perhaps sculpting animal heads next time round!
