Soul Ceramiks

I attended the mushroom tealight holder workshop, with my brother, on 14th November last year. The class itself was enjoyable and I loved the concept. Unfortunately, the whole follow-up experience was extremely disappointing. The finished pieces took much longer than the stated 4–6 weeks to be ready, which wasn’t communicated until I reached out for an update on 7th January. It ended up being almost 11 weeks, from the date of the workshop, before I was told I could collect my mushroom. Upon collecting the pieces, the glazing quality on mine is noticeably much poorer than my brother’s. They do both have a lot of "crazing", but overall my brother’s has been finished nicely and the glazing looks thick and glossy and the red is very vibrant. The glaze on mine looks thin and has lots of chips and cracks, completely unglazed patches, red drips underneath, and a milky, uneven finish, which dulls the red colour. I’ve attached photos showing the contrast. Since bringing it home a week ago, it has also been making constant tapping/cracking sounds (again, only mine, not my brother’s) so I have a lot of doubts about it’s longevity. I booked this workshop after looking extensively at the studio’s social media pages, and I’ve never seen any finished work posted that looks like my piece. After waiting so long for my finished piece and enjoying the workshop itself, it’s genuinely so upsetting to be left with something I don’t feel proud to display in my home. The quality of the final finish completely undermined what should have been a positive experience.

Had a workshop with Chelsea and it was so much fun. Made it very approachable for two absolute beginners. They are mad talented too and helped fix our mistakes and correct when we were doing things wrong, but never made it feel serious or like we were messing things up. Highly recommend!!

I highly recommend Soul Ceramiks ***** Chelsea organised customised 1-1 starter sessions for me to showcase the different clay hand building techniques: making pinch pots, coiling and slab building. She then showed me how to glaze my finished pieces and demonstrated the firing process. Chelsea is so friendly and kind and took the time to explain and show me how to do everything patiently. All 4 sessions were an absolute joy to take part in. If you are looking to learn or take part in any area of ceramics, on either a 1-1 basis or in a group session I wouldn't look any further than Soul Ceramiks ***** Thank you so much, Chelsea.
