Myself and my partner booked in for a 1 on 1 pottery lesson with kevin. Was such great fun for complete beginners and definitely would recommend. Made a butter dish that kevin shipped once kiln dry. Will definitely be back if in the area.

We booked a 2H session with Luke Axworthy blacksmith metal steel work as we celebrate our 6 years anniversary which symbolises with Iron so we thought this activity would be fun and something to do together. Luke gave us a tour of the place, we didn't realise there were so many artists in the building all in their own workshop. Luke is a fantastic and patient teacher we have never done any iron/steel work but soon with a bit of humour we were dressed in our safety gear ready and eager to learn. In this session we made victorian style hooks, we were taught a few techniques, heat the steel until it was ready to bend according to the colour and how bright orange it was, we learnt how to use several tools in order to manipulate the steel and how to achieve traditional black fnish by melting wax over the flames coating the hooks. I would recommend having a go who knows you might get hooked.

There's so much going on at Flameworks, I dropped in for the first time today, unbeknown to be it's been open for 17 years! I paid £5 for a 40min taster session with Luke making Axeworthy and had a great time, we made a simple twisted metal bracelet which was a great introduction to some basic metalworking skills. I'll certainly be going back for some of the evening sessions he runs, great instructor/teacher, he was very clear and I felt safe in the workshop. I didn't realise quite how many crafts there were at Flameworks, ceramics, glassworks, fine jewellery, metalworking to name but a few.

I visited Flameworks during Devon Open Studios. This is such an interesting and industrious place full of artist makers - metal workers, leather workers, potters, jewellers. Really friendly and talented artists. It's not usually open to the public though.

I had a two hour pottery lesson with Christina on Saturday, where I managed to throw 2 pots on the wheel. My first experience of throwing and it was wonderful. Christina is warm, knowledgeable and a welcoming teacher! I'm looking forward to collecting my pots and hoping to continue with my new found hobby! Such a wonderful creative space! A hidden gem which I'm keen to visit again very soon xx

Attended a pottery session with Christina at the weekend. My friend and I were both new to pottery, and Christina was a brilliant and patient teacher who gave us lots of encouragement. Looking forward to picking up our finished pots when they are ready to collect in a few weeks.
