Birchwood Art Studio

Myself, partner, and my parents had a great time at our Paint & Wine class with Sam last night. All materials were set up prior to arriving and, after glasses had been filled, we had a gentle start to the painting. As someone new to painting, Sam’s friendly and relaxed manner of instruction was really encouraging, and I feel I learnt quite a bit in the few hours we were there. My parents, who are a bit more experienced painters, were encouraged to go at their own pace. Would highly recommend as an evening activity. Look forward to attending again soon.

Attended an excellent course this morning on Knitting a Mitred Blanket (comprising of various mitred squares), taken by Una Richards. The course was very well organised and reasonably priced, and instructions were clear and succinct by the tutor who was very welcoming, knowledgable and approachable. Una’s handouts will be very useful when I’m practicing making mitred blankets at home, which the course has inspired me to do. Looking forward to attending other courses at Birchwood art studios which is a lovely creative venue.

Had such a great night at the Paint & Wine night at Birchwood Art - Sam is a brilliant artist and teacher and she created a really relaxed atmosphere in the studio. We were able to pick our own scene to paint, and she adapted it to suit all abilities in the group. Everyone really enjoyed it and would love to go again - would definitely recommend. Thanks again for a fab night!

I'm in my third term of a beginner's drawing/painting class at Birchwood and have been impressed with the experience from the beginning. It's a super warm, welcoming, inclusive place and clearly run and staffed by people who love art and creativity and believe in its expressive, therapeutic, social powers. It's very reasonable priced, super flexible (I've missed classes due to illness and have been invited to attend at other times free of charge). They also provide all materials. I've learned so much but in a relaxed, fun way. As someone who was previously a total novice I can't recommend this place enough if, like me, you have been thinking about delving into art for the first time.

We had so much fun at Paint and Wine last night! I went with my boyfriend. Others were with friends, family, or enjoying some painting time by themselves. Sam is such a wonderful teacher - she has a great eye and uses this to point out parts of your painting she loves, and also to offer useful feedback if you're not so happy about certain parts of your work. We were painting a version of Matisse' Open Window and I loved that we had the option to customise our paintings to include a view from our favourite window!

Great to try something different and definitely therapeutic! What could be better than Paint and Wine! Seamlessly organised - wine glasses filled and pallettes full of colour. Incredibly helpful and willing to share her expertise, Jo led us into the world of the Cezanne perspective... joy from start to finish!!

Birchwood is a wonderful local haven, where you can learn skills and find your creative streak. I'm just about to start my fourth term of Anyone can Draw. And, who knew? It seems to be true. If I can, anyone can 😊
