This Beginners Wheel Throwing Pottery Course at County Hall Pottery is perfect introduction to learning the fundamentals of wheel throwing. In the very first lesson, you'll dive straight into the basics—how to centre clay, drill, and pull walls into a cylinder shape. From there, you'll build on these foundational techniques to transform your cylinders into a variety of beautiful and functional forms. The course strikes the perfect balance between demonstrations and hands-on practice, ensuring that you have plenty of time to refine your skills. Gaby is a fantastic instructor, breaking down each step and technique in a clear, accessible way that makes the process feel intuitive and achievable. Her expert guidance and patience make all the difference in helping beginners gain confidence at the wheel. By the end of the course, I was not only able to create some amazing vases and bottles (pictured), but I also felt ready to take the next step and join a progression course. If you've ever wanted to try wheel throwing, I highly recommend this class—it’s an incredible experience that will leave you excited to keep creating!
