The studio emphasizes personalized guidance, with instructors often tailoring sessions to accommodate group needs, whether for team-building or individual creativity. The environment fosters a welcoming atmosphere, blending structured learning with room for artistic expression.

While the studio excels in hands-on sessions and high-quality materials, occasional inconsistencies in follow-up—such as delayed communication or logistical hiccups—have been noted. I arranged a session with Hattie, one of the two co-owners, as part of a work social. She was attentive and helpful throughout, accommodating our dates and times around the studio’s existing bookings and workshop schedules. She was very helpful at our session as well, helping a small team of novices craft our range of creations - explaining how to work the clay and encouraging our creativity. She kept me updated regularly about the drying and glazing process. Overall - a great team building activity, led by a knowledgeable and helpful ceramicist! A great day had by all, and I would recommend to others (and have).

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this studio. We booked a one-off pottery class hoping for a relaxing, guided experience, but the session was poorly run. Our instructor had to juggle walk-ins, queries, and the class all at once, so the guidance was patchy and inconsistent — not ideal when you’re a complete beginner. What made things worse was the follow-up. We were never able to collect our pieces. Emails went unanswered for months, and when we finally received a reply, it was a rude "last chance" message saying our work would be thrown out (this was over six months later). We booked a pick-up time, arrived as agreed, and were almost turned away — and our pieces weren’t there anyway. We booked this to relax, learn something new, and have a nice time, but the entire experience was stressful and disappointing. I’d suggest looking elsewhere. Many of the positive reviews are from over a year ago; sadly, the management seems to have gone downhill since.

I absolutely love Umber Works! I’ve done the adult evening classes which are perfectly pitched and very relaxing, and the family Saturday morning workshop which my son adores - and is always desperate to go back! A fantastic gem of a place.

I attended a Candle Light class in Feb which was so, so, lovely. The teacher was great, the studio is gorgeous and it was a friendly and welcoming vibe. I’d love to come again.

Went to a class today at Umber works, it’s an incredibly friendly, relaxed environment. Clear guidance given throughout the session, top quality materials and a great way to meet locals with similar interests. All in a lovely studio & with a great host. I’ve already booked my next session!

Lovely hour or so doing thumb pottery as a work social. Fun experience and would definitely return. The owner who ran the session was incredibly helpful, made the session really enjoyable and was rather patient (with me).

Went to a pottery class and had so much fun. The class was easy to follow, but also allowed for everyone to be creative in their own way - not like some classes where you just copy the teacher. Highly recommend for a fun and relaxing activity with friends or family
